WINNSBORO — The Lady Eagles ran their record to 4-0 Monday night with a victory over Laurens Academy.
The Eagles were in control throughout and made sure the Crusaders left the Winnsboro gym with a ( 25-20. 20-25, 25-20, 25-20) loss. RWA Coach Callie Sims said her young squad is still growing and has room for improvement despite the unblemished record.
“We haven’t played to our potential yet. We pack a lot of power, but haven’t been able to get as many swings as we’d like,” she said. “We’ve got to work on setting up our outside hitters more, and be bigger at the net.”
Standouts for the game included Carson Justice (3 aces, 1 block, 7 kills); Madison Wade (3 aces, 1 block, 3 kills); Alyssa Atkerson (2 aces, 3 kills); Marion Walker Coleman (1 ace); Jaycie Johnson (1 block, 3 kills); Emily Brigman (2 blocks, 4 kills); Sarah Grier Thompson (1 kill) and Cassidy Branham (1 kill).
She said her group is working hard in practice in anticipation of a tough match in Chester on Monday and to prepare for conference play which begins next Tuesday.
“Our back row defense is pretty solid, need to step up the front row and get our serves in,” she said. “We missed a lot of serves in the past few matches.”
The Eagles take on the Chester Cyclones at 5 p.m. Monday.
