Using the ENTIRE school for learning

January 8, 2014

WINNSBORO — The students of Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science are indeed “Full SteAm Ahead!”

The fifth grade students of FMSMS took their learning beyond the four walls of their classroom, into the hallways, to plan and conduct an investigation to find out “Which type of paper will make your paper-airplane travel the farthest?”

Students tested printer paper, construction paper, and cardstock paper as apart of their investigation and carried out the steps of the scientific method to answer their guiding question.

This is the type of innovative and rigorous lessons principal Gale Whitfield expects of all of her teachers at the Magnet School as they seek to open the minds of their students through the academics and the arts.

Lesson facilitators were Abagail Frame, science lab teacher, and Erica Russell, fifth grade science teacher.
