WINNSBORO — Fairfield Behavioral Health Services held its 17th annual 5k run/walk in honor of Alcohol Awareness Month. Scott Richardson was the first overall finisher in a field of 165 participants.
Annie took first place in the female runner’s field and Jeff Mattox and Skylar Isenhower took first place in their respective divisions among the walkers.
Prior to the race, a ceremonial torch was lit to honor the memories of friends and loved ones who have lost their lives because of alcohol abuse and addiction.
“It is a constant reminder to all of us to raise awareness about the dangers and negative impact of alcohol abuse, underage drinking and addiction,” Fairfield Central High School head football coach Demetrius Davis said.
The race was sanctioned by U.S.A. Track and Field and runners/walkers participated in the 3.1 mile run and 1.8 mile walk as it toured the scenic and historic routes of Winnsboro.
