It is depressing to see our government officials whom we voted in on campaign promises they made to look out for the citizens of our county. Then they use these positions to help themselves and not the citizens. I spent 25 years serving and protecting this county because I was raised here and wanted it to be safe for our kids to grow up in. I also retired from serving my country in the military for 21 years. I have several combat tours defending this great nation and am still now working to partner with the military in Afghanistan to support our efforts there and to serve.
One of the benefits I was promised when I started with the county was that when I retired my insurance would stay the same. Then I retired and these council members decided that to save our county money they would stop paying a large part of retirees insurance. It is funny that the same amount I now have to pay extra from my retirement check each month is the same as the amount they decided to take extra from the county when they were trying to save money. And one of these council members refused to sit and talk to me six months ago about this because they were only worried about themselves and not our county or its retired servants.
It was wrong for them to do this and yes, they should have to return it all if they really want to help our county get back on its feet financially. Our council members must be held accountable, as I was when I was serving this county. Citizens of Fairfield County need to get involved and insure that this is followed up on and straightened out soon.
