WINNSBORO — In an effort to raise funds for Rotary service projects, Fairfield Steps and Polio Prevention, Winnsboro Rotary held its first 4way test 5k run/walk this past weekend.
Participants either ran or walked a course that went through downtown Winnsboro. The top racers received either a medal or trophy for their effort.
Nearly 100 people showed up for the 5k and Fairfield County Recreation director Lori Schaeffer was pleased with the outcome for the event’s first year.
“It has really exceed expectations with a very good first turnout,” she said. “We’re hoping to do continue doing this annually with great participation. The event is really good for the community and overall it is a fun time.”
The top three teams with the largest participation included Midlands BioFuels, Roto Runners and Alliance’s consulting and engineering group. Alliance was the largest contributor and sponsor.
Columbia resident Nate Millsap finished first overall with a time of 22 minutes and 52 seconds. Even after running the 5k, he was still energized.
“I feel great,” Millsap said. “I run a good bit of races and they’re always a lot of fun. I would definitely come back next year.”
