WINNSBORO — Lauren Brooke Smith, 20, was crowned the new Miss Rock Around the Clock over the weekend in the Rock Around the Clock Beauty Pageant.

Teen Miss (ages 14-16 years old): Addison Bostrom
Preteen Miss (ages 11-13 years old): Amari Jones
Young Miss (ages 8-10 years old): Taylor Elizabeth Spires
Little Miss (ages 5-7 years old): Markalah Alston
Wee Miss (ages 3-4 years old): Kylie Allene Jordon
Toddler Miss (ages 19-35 months old): Alayna Grace Ban
Baby Miss (ages 0-18 months old): Alianna Rose Smith
Contestants went through two rounds of competition including sports wear and formal wear. This was the first year the pageant was held at the Pine Tree Playhouse. It was held at the Fairfield County Recreation Center last year.
Winnsboro native Mary Startsman Swearingen served as the pageant’s director for the first time after previously serving as a judge. Swearingen was the first Miss Rock Around the Clock in 2005.
Her sister Coleman Startsman Blackwelder was the pageant’s Mistress of Ceremonies and emceed the event. The two sisters have always embraced in the tradition of watching beauty pageants together, and were able to bring their skills together to put on this year’s Rock Around the Clock Beauty Pageant.
Blackwelder introduced the contestants with profile information about their favorite food, book, activity, movie or television show.
Judges included Katie Arnette, Nikki Sanders and Ebony Woods along with the Melissa Spencer serving as the Auditor.
Patrons attending this weekend’s Rock Around the Clock festival in Winnsboro can expect to see all the winners in the Rocking Chair Parade this Friday. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. and the pageant winners will be introduced at 7:45 p.m.
