Criss Langston, 28, of Franklin was arrested today in the shooting of Michael Anthony Starnes, 48, from Heard County.
Langston was arrested this morning in Heard County and was transported to the Troup County Jail.
He is being charged with felony murder, tampering with evidence and felony theft of a firearm.
The body of Starnes was found Friday evening and identified Sunday.
His death occurred sometime Friday afternoon or evening in the area of McCosh Mill Rd, according to a sheriff’s report.
According to the report, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to McCosh Mill Road at around 11:10 p.m. where they found a man had been shot. Deputies determined the victim was already dead when they arrived.
Medical personnel and investigators along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were dispatched to the scene. The victim was taken to the GBI laboratory in Atlanta for analysis as the investigation continues.
Stuart Smith, Public Information Officer with the TCSO, said that Starnes was found by a group of people who initially thought he was only unconscious. Upon further review, they discovered he had been shot.
This morning, Smith said investigation was continuing this week with interviews lined up, but there were no concrete leads into a suspect or what occurred.
