WINNSBORO — Richard Winn’s Lady Eagles volleyball program, under the direction of Coach Callie Sims, continues to roll along and rack up W’s as the season winds down.

The JV/MS team now holds a 6-3 record with three matches remaining including their season finale on Oct. 15 at home.

Playing without injured starters Emily Brigman and Carson Justice, the varsity squad rallied to capture two more victories this past week against Northside Christian School and Oakbrook Prep. The third match of the week was played at RWA against region opponent Greenwood Christian on Thursday, but results were not available at press time.

The Lady Eagles varsity team made the short trip to Lexington to match up against the young, less experienced Northside Christian Lady Crusader team on Oct. 7. RWA took the match in three straight games, 25-8, 25-2 and 25-10.

Tuesday’s home match was a bit more challenging for the RWA team as the two squads were more evenly matched. The Lady Eagles narrowly defeated the Lady Knights of Oakbrook Prep in a five-game match during their first meeting in Spartanburg.

Both teams knew this second match would be just as intense as they battled it out for the region’s number three seeding.

The Lady Knights took game one, 25-19, and looked as though they were about to take game two as well before the Lady Eagles rallied to win 26-24. The momentum swing was just enough to give the home team a boost to win the match by taking games three and four, 25-22 and 25-17.

Both the JV/MS and varsity teams play at Laurens Academy on Oct. 14, and then return to RWA for the final match of the regular season against region powerhouse Spartanburg Christian on Tuesday.

Sarah Grier Thompson and Carson Justice and their parents will be honored on Tuesday as these senior student-athletes play their last match at RWA. That match will begin at 6 p.m. following the JV match at 4:30 p.m.

The RWA varsity squad will find out Wednesday whether it gets invited to the SCISA State AA Playoffs that start Oct. 18 at the Sumter Civic Center.
