WINNSBORO — The Pumpkin Patch Express will haul little ghosts and goblins and their families on a Halloween Adventure on Oct. 26 and Rufus Timms with the S.C. Railroad Museum said volunteers have some new wrinkles planned this year.

Activities will include face painting, a model train exhibit built to scale model, a scarecrow greeting the children, pumpkin decoration and an exhibit from the local fire department.

Four trains will run this year with the first ride starting at 9:30 a.m. Timms said the trains will be staggered so they all run on the tracks at the same time, allowing more participants to make the trek.

That’s a good thing because as of Oct. 18 over 290 tickets had been sold. He said the museum ordered around 600 pumpkins this year.

All children on the train ride will receive a pumpkin that can be decorated at the stop in the middle of the trip. The pumpkins will be decorated using stencils and ink, not by carving them.

“Children also are welcome to wear their costumes if they want,” Timms said.

A new loading deck will make it easier for riders to board the train, especially at the pumpkin patch. That deck also improves wheelchair access and is an exciting upgrade to the facilities, according to Timms.

He encouraged people to order tickets in advance online at www.scrm.org/whistletix.html or to call Saturday morning to confirm there were still tickets available before making the trip to Winnsboro. Trains leave at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The museum is located at 110 Industrial Park Road in Winnsboro. Proceeds from these events help fund the all-volunteer organization and help the railroad museum with operating expenses.
