RIDGEWAY — Workshops and growth, personally and as a group, were among topics discussed at the September meeting of the Fairfield County Arts Council.
Terry Vickers spoke about a possible Ag and Art partnership in 2015 for Fairfield County. They are looking for farm outlets with commercial sales where artists could show their work and sell it in partnership.
“This is something for the county to aspire to but it takes all of us to encourage and identify growers (on the ag end),” Vickers said.
Members brainstormed ideas of local agricultural businesses to contact. Vickers also mentioned how eggs are now sold at the Fairfield Farmer’s Market.
Upcoming projects for the arts council include a writing contest for Rock around the Clock. Virginia Schafer is heading up the contest for local school children and said she needs judges. Anyone interested needs to contact her.
There will be four divisions. The theme is “Our Town” and students will write about whatever town in the county they choose. The group also would like to do readings at Rock Around the Clock, probably Oct. 5 when children perform from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“This is a great way to not only encourage literacy but to promote history,” Schafer said.
An avid writer recently had a book published on the history of Fairfield County, Schafer still is planning a “Writing Your Life” workshop to be held once a month.
The Arts Council will hold a pottery class in October and a photography work shop is in the works as the group seeks to partner more with area educators.
