The Fairfield County Council had another packed house at the July 29 meeting. We were provided with very little information, but were promised it would be forthcoming at a future meeting. We were instructed as to how the Local Option Sales Tax was formulated and how it was supposed to work. At issue is approximately $5.2 million that is in the general fund that, in fact, is LOST revenue that should have been returned to the tax payers of Fairfield County.
Furthermore, this oversight goes back to 2006 when the tax was implemented. Council does not have a final figure for 2013, but they do have audited figures from 2006 to 2012. None of this information was forthcoming at the meeting. Why?
We require a full and complete accounting of Council’s activity regarding the oversight or lack thereof.
