I have resided in Winnsboro for the past 17 plus years. My husband and I moved here to retire. Since moving here, we have watched our county council gradually make decisions which have consistently reduced the quality of living under the guise of building for the future.
We do not need another huge expense laded upon the taxpayers under the “what if” of possibly 500 new jobs in five years. Council had dumped bad money after bad money on schemes which have not generated anything except another empty building and roads and sidewalks overgrown with grass.
In addition to paying for another economic survey, what happened to the one we paid for about five years ago and never got into the public eye? We have wasted thousands on another Industrial Park when the one we have is woefully empty and uncared for with more empty county owned buildings. This Council needs to pay attention to the residents of this county.
We need a YMCA for the children, a rebuild of the Armory for public use, updating of parks and recreation, and more assistance for our elderly and to the Council on Aging needs addressing. Release the building which Council in its wisdom stored, to the community for a community center. Make Winnsboro a terrific place to live and stop worrying about other things.
If we have a wonderful, supportive town, people will flock to live here. Jobs will then take care of themselves as long as the schools continue to improve. Enforce the building codes, clean up downtown store fronts help citizens paint and repair their homes. Become a caring community.
And lastly, keep Fairfield County water in Fairfield County. There is a huge water line which crosses Community Drive, goes under the Interstate and into Blythewood. Let Blythewood tap into that. Maintain the vacant buildings which spot our community areas and stop creating more vacancies. Come on Council, wise up.
