DNR makes changes to waterfowl lottery hunt
COLUMBIA — The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has made a number of changes for the 2013-2014 season to make the waterfowl lottery hunt more efficient and user-friendly.
DNR will no longer mail applications to those who previous applied. DNR has created a webpage that will allow interested hunters to apply for various hunts and pay applicable fees. Check the DNR website at: http://dnr.sc.gov and use the “Public Lottery Hunt Applications” button to apply. There is also an option to print an application from home and mail it in.
DNR has made some significant changes to three public waterfowl areas. Donnelley, Bonneau Ferry and Clemson are now strictly “Youth Only” and will require one or two hunting youths less than 16 years of age with an accompanying adult who is at least 21 years of age and who will not be allowed to shoot.
A “non-draw” option on the application will allow you to apply and acquire a preference point, but you will not be considered for selection. This will benefit those who know that they will not be available for the hunts in the current year but want to maintain their preference history and be considered for selection the following year.
Resident Temporary Wildlife Management Area Permit ($5.50) that has been offered to all lottery hunters will now only be offered for the ½ day hunts (waterfowl and turkey). Those who apply and are selected for the other hunts must possess a regular Wildlife Management Permit at the time they hunt.
Remember that the Wildlife Management Area Permit is included in the Sportsman License, Junior Sportsman License and Gratis- over 64 License. A Wildlife Management Area Permit is not required of anyone under the age of 16. The permit is only available online at https://dnrlicensing.sc.gov/DNRLicensing/EntryPage.aspx or at any regional DNR office.
DNR will also now only notify the primary applicant of the lottery results. The primary applicant can now also choose to be notified via email.
