COLUMBIA — The Southeastern Conference has fined the University of South Carolina $25,000 after fans stormed the court following the Gamecocks upset win over Kentucky Saturday night.
Conference policy states team members, coaches, officials, support personnel and other credentialed individuals are the only people allowed on the court.
The violation occurred when USC beat number 17 ranked Kentucky 72-67.
The fine was handed down because of USC’s violation of the league’s access to competition area policy after fans entered the court following the upset win.
According to the policy, “access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area.”
