RIDGEWAY — The Language of Flowers program held June 2 at St. Johns’ Episcopal Church drew the curious from Lexington, Columbia, Newberry, Blythewood and Great Falls as well as Ridgeview and Winnsboro.
Sonya White explained how messages of sentiments can be conveyed to friends and loved ones by the type and color of flowers sent.
The mystic and romance of the “Language of Flowers” is having a resurgence of its more than 200-year-old history, popular with Queen Victoria in 1847. Kate Middleton carefully chose the flowers for her all white bridal bouquet to express her sentiments of return of happiness, marriage, fidelity, gallantry, wedded love and friendship and constancy of love.
For the event, the Cornwallis Tea Room provided iced teas and chicken salad sandwiches. Christina Faire had a variety of custom made teas to taste and to buy. Kathy Timms of Summer Day welcomed shoppers with an array of gift items for sale or to order.
Rhonda Lanier, landscape artist with Hay Hill Market, helped to carry blooming plants to cars for those who bought from her “mini garden market.” Ann Carr with Fairfield County Master Gardeners answered plant and garden questions. Susan Douglas Taylor provided the entertainment.
Proceeds to FMH Foundation from the event will benefit Fairfield Memorial Hospital to enhance patient care.
