Christ Central Ministries has expanded its facilities to Winnsboro.
As of June 29, Christ Central Ministries has taken over the Fairfield Country Club. After June 29, equipment began arriving to help clear the grounds, along with a team of volunteers.
Members of the country club have been given permission to continue to use the facility until the transition teams roll out the final plans for the location.
The goal behind this revitalization is to help to jump start Fairfield County by developing the downtown Winnsboro area.
Christ Central Ministries CEO Jimmy Jones said normally he would like six months to a year to research and plan before making such a move with a new location, but with this opportunity they had to move quickly.
Even though the move happened fast it is for the better, Jones feels.
“It’s hard to bounce back when the last thing left is the court house,” he said in reference to the appearance of how most small downtown areas look in struggling municipalities.
The planning will still take place as teams are formed from members of the community and anyone else who has an interest in seeing Fairfield County grow.
The former country club is in a key location and sets the tone for the downtown Winnsboro area.
One goal for the planning is keeping the facility in focus with the mission of the ministry, which is enriching communities through men and women’s transitional housing, food, clothing ministry and life skills training.
The location will have a golf course, tennis court, pool and hopefully a place to offer classes in the near future.
Activity at the golf course would provide even more reasons for people to journey downtown and help generate the revenue the town needs to expand.
This is just a small part of what is to come. The ministry has big plans in the works and has brought some key players to the table, including Dru Blair from the Dru Blair School of Art.
