WINNSBORO — Fairfield County schools have received national recognition for their state-of-the-art Google Chromebooks initiative.
Julie Barfield, coordinator of technology for the Fairfield County School District, said the positive press coverage came about through networking.
“When Dr. Claudia Edwards decided to try Chromebooks, we went to one of our most used vendors — CDW-G — to purchase one as a trial. When we told the company that she planed to make one available for all or at least most of our students, they were excited to learn more,” Barfield said.
Barfield contacted a writer for EdTech K-12 an online and print publication providing IT content for leaders and K-12 administrators. The magazine also boasts an active Twitter feed that educators use as a resource.
Barfield got the writer who did the Chromebooks article in touch with Edwards and in the process the school district received a shot in the arm from some positive PR.
Edwards added that “the magazine felt because the volume that had been purchased, size of the district, and our demographics, we could share from our perspective best practices in deploying and integrating the Chromebooks into our classrooms as a 1:1 solution.”
