The rash of copper thefts continues in Fairfield County with thieves now stealing entire condensers out of air conditioning units.

On Aug. 27, the River of Life Church at 3945 U.S. Highway 321 South was burglarized, with two of its three air conditioning units being stolen.

Those air conditioning units were valued at $10,000.

Two days earlier on Aug. 25 the Spiritual Way Church of Christ at 2883 Syrup Mill Road in Ridgeway reported its air conditioning unit as stolen.

The stolen units was estimated to be worth $6,000.

Captain Brad Douglas with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office said that officers have been performing advanced patrols in response to the thefts.

Citing operational sensitivity, he did not want to elaborate further, but he assures residents that the department is working diligently to combat these thieves.

“We continue to encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles or persons to us,” Douglas said. Fairfield County Sheriff’s office can be reached at 635-4141.
