On Sunday Fairfield County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a larceny call of several air conditioning units at Richard Winn Academy.

Employees at the school reported approximately six air conditioning units vandalized and that those units’ coils had been taken.

Investigators found where subjects entered the property by cutting a hole in the fence on the back part of the school.

Three units were vandalized there before the thieves climbed the fence and vandalized three units in the front of the school.

Coils were stolen from all of the units.

The stolen metal was valued at $18,000.

The incident remains under investigation.

According to Fairfield County Sheriff’s Captain Brad Douglas, sheriff’s deputies believe the incident as well as a theft at the Fairfield Department of Mental Health to be consistent with other copper thefts in the county in recent weeks.

Douglas continued to advise residents be vigilant of their surroundings in hopes that would not only deter theft but ultimately lead to arrests in these cases.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Fairfield County Sheriff’s office at 803-635-4141.
