The Richard Winn Eagles look to regroup after a heartbreaking last second loss last week when they take on the Cathedral Academy Generals in home action on Friday night.

The game will be a doubleheader with the middle school playing at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game following around 7:30 p.m. Cathedral will make the trip up from North Charleston to take on the Eagles.

Coach Kenny Atkerson likes the match-ups presented by Cathedral. The school runs a 3-4 defense and runs a lot of I formation plays on offense. He said they run a lot of man to man coverage as well.

The team is pretty healthy over all. Sidney Edenfield is the only Eagle who is expected to miss the game.

“Sidney dislocated his shoulder and will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Logan Gibbons is nursing a sore ankle but should be ready for Friday,” Atkerson said.

The team played hard last week. Atkerson said if they can cut down on the mental mistakes that they have a chance to play really well.

*We played a good football team down to the last second and did a lot of things well,” he said. “We will work on correcting mistakes this week and we hope to improve each week.”

One area that showed up last week as needing improvement was the kickoff game.

The Eagles had several kicks go out of bounds and result in penalties.

They will spend this week shoring up that aspect of the game and continue learning the nuances of the single wing offense.

With man to man coverage a likelihood on Friday night, it may create some favorable match-ups through the air.

Coach asks the community to come on out and see the Eagles play. “We have a pretty good team that works hard and plays very physical,” he said.

With solid fan support, the ninth man, this being eight man football, may be the deciding factor in Friday night’s games.
