Winnsboro Public Safety and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office will host their annual National Night Out on Tuesday at the Old Armory in Winnsboro, from 6-8 p.m.

The theme for this year is “It Takes a Community to Fight Crime.”

This is a free event for the entire family that will include exhibits on bicycle safety, child fingerprinting, crime prevention, face painting, gang awareness and gun safety.

National night out is just that, a nation wide event that combines citizens and local law enforcement, who come together to educate and be educated. The overall mission which is to combat criminal activity.

The first National Night Out was done on a national level in 1984 with 400 communities in 23 states participating.

Last year during the 28th Annual National Night Out, a record 37.1 million people in 15,325 communities from all 50 states took part in the event, according to the National Night Out website.

Winnsboro Public Safety and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office encourage everyone to come out and take part in this event. It will be a great time to ask questions and have conversations with local law enforcement.
