Eagle fans were in for a long night at Wells field as Richard Winn squared off against W.W. King Academy.

W.W. King returned the opening kickoff to the RWA 21-yard line. A halfback pass to the quarterback put the Knights inside the 10, where the Eagle defense bent but did not break.

Logan Gibbons recovered a fumble by the Knights giving the Eagles the ball at their own 8-yard line.

It appeared the Eagles were getting things rolling as Austin Knox completed a pass to Davis for eight yards. But, Knox’s third down pass was deflected incomplete and he came on to punt.

The Knights took over on the Eagle 32 yard line with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. They scored on a long touchdown run to lead 6-0 lead with 2:13 left in the first quarter. The PAT was no good.

Richard Winn struggled on offense again and W.W. King built on its early momentum with a touchdown pass from Alex Berry to put the team up 14-0 following a successful two-point conversion.

The Eagle running game could not gain traction against the Knights as holes closed as quickly as they appeared for the running backs.

Knox helped his cause by dropping a punt inside the 18-yard line.

However big plays by the W.W. King option offense allowed them to move the ball right down the field. A 65-yard touchdown pass from Berry to Caleb Fulmer made it 20-0 with 10:46 left in the half.

Richard Winn hoped to get some momentum when Reid Johnson stepped in front of an Alex Berry pass and returned the interception return for a touchdown, but the play was called back on a roughing the passer penalty.

From there, a long screen pass from Berry to Price Carpenter made it 26-0 W.W. King.

The PAT was no good, so W.W. King led 26-0 with 8 minutes left in the half.

Knox took charge on the next drive, leading the Eagles inside the Knight 10-yard line. Knox ran the ball inside the five-yard line and scored on a two-yard run on a fourth down play. Mason Gibbons scored the PAT on a pass from Knox.

W.W. King led 26-8 with 2:50 left in the first half.

W.W. King struck quickly, again through the air with a touchdown pass from Alex Berry to Caleb Fulmer on a jump ball. Fulmer split the safeties and caught the ball at its highest point before rumbling into the end zone. The two-point conversion gave them a 32-8 lead with 2:24 left in the half.

W.W. King tacked on another touchdown and two-point conversion following a Richard Winn fumble. Running back Cheyenne Bodie score the two-point conversion.

At the half W.W. King led Richard Winn 42-8.

The Eagles played hard in the second half but could not cut into the deficit.

The final score was W.W. King 56 and Richard Winn 14.

Sophomore Matt Taylor scored the other touchdown for the Eagles on a 22-yard pass from Knox. The two-point conversion to Logan Gibbons was good to close out the scoring on the night for the Eagles.

The banged up bunch from RWA suffered a key injury in the first half with senior Corey Davis leaving the game with a lower leg injury. He did not return and his status for next week is unknown at this time.

Austin Knox lead the team with 20 rushes for 102 yards and a touchdown. He completed 12 of 18 passes for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Receiving leaders were Reid Johnson with three receptions for 14 yards and Logan Gibbons with five receptions for 24 yards.

As a team the Eagles rushed 33 times for 164 yards and one touchdown.

Next week the Eagles hope for a stronger showing at home when they square off against Clarendon Hall.
