WINNSBORO — The Richard Winn Lady Eagles soared to an early 20-2 first quarter lead and never looked back Friday night. The Eagles defeated the Greenwood Christian Hawks 60-12.

Junior Carson Justice led Richard Winn with 23 points. Justice hit on 50 percent of her field goals and chipped in three-pointers at a 33 percent clip in the contest. Joining her in double figures were freshman Jaycie Johnson with 12 and eighth-grader Alyssa Atkerson with 13 points.

Johnson was the leading rebounder for the Eagles with 7. The Eagles were led in hustles by Anna Cooke with 10. The Lady Eagles were shorthanded in the post with Jessie Stidham missing the game due to illness.

They made sure the Hawks left the RWA stadium feeling unwell though.

Suffocating defense allowed the Eagles to cruise to their 18th victory of the season. They ran up and down the floor which led to transition baskets and kept Greenwood Christian from mounting a run and climbing back into the game.

The Lady Eagles next play Spartanburg Day School at Spartanburg on Jan. 22. They hope to run their region record to 5-0 after that contest. Middle school games precede the varsity contest, with tip off coming at 4 p.m. for the middle school games.
