On Wednesday, Winnsboro became the fourth stop of the Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour, sponsored by the State Treasurer’s Office.
This event was not only a great chance to meet S.C. Treasurer Curtis Loftis, but it was also a time to check to see if your name appeared in a database with nearly $300 million unclaimed dollars.
The event took place at the Cornwallis Tea Company Tea Room on South Congress Street in Winnsboro, with nearly 50 people in attendance.
As guests came into the tea room, there were two stations set up for them to check to see if their name was in the database.
To many’s surprise, Loftis was manning one of the stations.
Loftis said, “There is nothing I enjoy more than getting out and meeting constituents and finding they have money due to them.”
Although none of the persons in attendance received money by finding their names in the database, there were 5 cases of family or friends not in attendance who names were on the list.
For those who could not make the event, they still have a chance to see if their names appear on the list by going to www.treasurer.sc.gov and clicking Palmetto Payback.
