Ben Lippen School Head Varsity Baseball Coach Ben Porter has been named the school’s new athletic director.
Porter has been at Ben Lippen School since fall 2010.
In addition to coaching baseball, Porter has served as strength and conditioning coach and as a houseparent for the Ben Lippen boarding program.
As athletic director, Porter will oversee an athletic department consisting of 38 teams for sixth through twelfth grade boys and girls.
Before coming to Ben Lippen, Porter was athletic director, football and baseball coach and teacher at Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro.
He has also served as a teacher and coach at Calhoun Academy in St. Matthews.
Ben Lippen High School Principal Gerald Porter, no relation to Ben Porter, says the new athletic director has the experience and skills to build upon the school’s traditions.
“Ben has a special rapport with the student athletes and respect from coaches at Ben Lippen and other schools”, Gerald Porter said. “He is a tremendous match for the profile that was developed by our hiring committee. We are thrilled to have Ben Porter serve as our athletic director and lead us through the continued growth and development of our programs.”
Porter is a 2001 graduate of The Citadel. He is married to Margaret Hall Porter. The couple resides in Columbia with their two children.
Porter replaces Bill Currier who stepped down after serving the school for 23 years.
A search to fill the head varsity baseball coach position is underway.
Ben Lippen School is a Christian, college preparatory school of nearly 800 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12, and is a ministry of Columbia International University.
