For the 12th year the town of Ridgeway has come together to walk 1.5 miles, from the corner of Church and Palmer streets to Bethlehem Baptist Church on Third Street, and on Sunday more than 200 walkers came together for the journey.

Patricia Kelly-Johnson plans this event each year as students prepare to return to school for those in the Ridgeway and surrounding areas.

The community comes together to pray for the students, teachers, bus drivers and administrators.

This year’s program had representation from walk sponsors as well as local churches.

Ridgeway Mayor Charlene Herring took part in the walk and gave greetings on behalf of the town of Ridgeway.

Each student between the ages of 5-years-old and 18-years-old who attended and participated in the walk received a Wal-Mart gift card.

The walk and program was a big success with at least 300 people in attendance.
