WINNSBORO — One local church has stepped in to help a local young man who has been homeless for a few years now.

Speak to My Heart Ministries Inc., located at 198 Pumphouse Road, in Winnsboro has opened their doors and hearts to help Daniel Gladden.

The pastor of the church Christopher Nelums said, “Daniel was our first member two years ago when we opened our doors and he continues to attend church every Sunday.”

Gladden was living with his mother who passed away in 2005 and left to live with his grandfather. His grandfather passed away in 2009 leaving Gladden on his own. Gladden, who is an adult, suffers from a disability and was unable to take care of the taxes on the home he was living, which is how he found himself homeless.

The issues in this case much like others in the homeless community stems from the fact that Gladden who was a special needs student all while in school does not have the skills needed to take care of himself. Not only does he lack the skills but he didn’t have the financial resources needed to live on his own.

The church has stepped in to help Gladden get his life back on track by helping to provide a place for him to live and get some much needed assistance.

The church is seeking help from the community to help Gladden and his sister, Rachel Gladden, who are currently homeless and displaced.

Donations are being used to assist in their housing needs and well as legal representation as they seek to get the assistance they both need.

For more information about making a donation to help the Gladdens, call 803-730-6003.

Note: This is just part one of The Herald Independent series on Homelessness in Fairfield County; continue to follow this series and the Gladden’s story as we take a look at a day in the life of a homeless person.
