An Aug. 1 traffic accident in Kershaw County took the life of a Ridgeway man.
Joseph Dorton, 46, was traveling northbound on Wateree Dam Road at 2:11 a.m. when his vehicle approached a lefthand curve.
The vehicle, a Chevrolet Avalanche, ran off the lefthand side of the road and struck a tree.
According to Sgt. Bryan McDougal with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the truck became engulfed in flames after striking the tree.
Dorton was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a member of the Kershaw County School Board of Trustees.
The incident remains under investigation.
