The students in Fairfield County joined those across the Midlands who returned to school on Monday.

The first day of school was not an ideal one for students or parents, as the rain from the night before continued lightly.

Nevertheless, the buses began to roll early and the schools across the county opened their doors.

As students returned to school, a few changes awaited them from new faces to new bus routes, but the first day seems to have been a success.

Students who had eagerly awaited the end of summer so they could return to school to see old friends, and teachers who were eager to teach filled the classrooms.

The teachers are working this year to help the Fairfield County School District go from ordinary to extraordinary.

That journey started with small steps on the first day of school.
