McCrorey-Liston Elementary school received a donation of school supplies Aug. 16 from V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.
This was one of the community service projects led by local members of the North American–Young Generation in Nuclear (NA-YGN) and Women in Nuclear (WiN).
“This will be most beneficial to kids who need the supplies but it also helps the parents to start the year fresh,” said Chandra Bell, the school principal. “The children who receive this will be so excited to have new bookbags, calculators and other supplies.”
Teachers also benefited from the donations.
The money collected from V.C. Summer employees was put toward classroom essentials.
Each teacher received a jug of hand sanitizer, a box of tissues and a container of Clorox wipes for their class.
In addition to the regular supplies, more technical items were also on the request list this year.
“Being a technology school, the flash drives will be put to good use,” Bell said.
Overall, V.C. Summer employees donated more than 100 spiral notebooks, 12 backpacks, and two large storage bins full of paper, pens, pencils, markers and glue.
“We’re happy to give back to the community,” said Tonya Green, a member of WiN. “This directly impacts families and goes straight into their hands.”
The community is thankful for the support.
“You guys have been so good to us over the years. We get a lot of support from V.C. Summer,” Bell said.
