WINNSBORO — The Lions Club of Winnsboro hosted its pancake supper fund raiser on Feb. 4 and, according to Lion Paul Dove, the event was a great success.
Each February the Winnsboro Lions hosts the pancake supper which helps underwrite the club’s sponsorship of eye exams and glasses provision for 24 indigent local citizens.
“We also accept used eyeglasses to forward to needy people all over the world,” Lion treasurer Teresa Reed noted.
Area residents could come fill their bellies for a good cause and boy did they turn out for the event.
“We were serving pancakes as fast as we could cook them and still had a long waiting line at one point,” pancake supper chair Ann Carr said.
Club members mixed batter, flipped pancakes, baked sausage, served meals, handed out milk, provided coffee and greeted guests.
“I am always pleased at our turnout and how friends and neighbors stay and visit,” said Gene Clemens, president of the Lions Club. Clemens said about 300 people enjoyed eating in while some 100 takeouts were also served.
“We received great support from the community,” he said, “and much of ingredients were donated and many local businesses made financial contributions to our cause.”
The event was one that Lions from the region participated in as well.
“We had fellow Lions from Blythewood, Greenwood, Camden and River Hills and including our district governor from the Columbia club to attend and lend support to our annual fundraiser,” Dove said.
