RIDGEWAY — The staff and residents of Fairfield Healthcare Laurel Baye LLC played host to Meteorologist Ben Tanner on Feb. 5 for National Weatherman’s Day. Tanner is the WIS Storm Alert Meteorologist on WIS News 10 Sunrise and WIS News 10 at Noon.

He is a native of Atlanta, Ga., and received a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Georgia along with a master of geoscience degree in meteorology from Mississippi State University.

He holds both the American Meteorological Society’s Television Seal of Approval and National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval. Tanner shared with the residents his love for the great outdoors and relaxing with his wife Dr. Andrea Tanner and children, Kati and Benjamin.

Residents and staff at Fairfield Healthcare asked Tanner questions about the chances of snowfall in the area and if he thought we would have an early spring. Although he was unsure if we would get snowfall, he did tell everyone that we could see a little more cold weather before March.

Tanner and weather folks across the country receive recognition on Feb. 5 as this date was selected to commemorate the birth of John Jeffries. Jeffries was born on Feb. 5, 1744, and was one of America’s first weather observers. He began taking daily weather observations in the city of Boston in 1774.

Tanner was given a gift basket and thanked for his hard work. The residents and staff look forward to watching him each day and felt honored that he took the time out to visit them.
