KERSHAW COUNTY — Two teens for whom an extensive search was held in Fairfield County over the past two weeks have been located.

The Catwaba County teens, Jake Ziegler, 18, and Ray Pierce, 17, were found Sunday afternoon off of I-20 at mile marker 96.

According to Kershaw County Coroner John Fellers, the teen’s vehicle was found submerged in a creek just before the Wateree River.

It appeared the car had run off of the road, run down a guardrail and then gone airborne before coming to rest in the creek.

The teens left N.C. early Saturday morning Oct. 13 on a trip to Myrtle Beach but they never arrived there.

Last known communication from the pair occurred in Fairfield County off 1-77 when cell phone records showed a text message was sent from one of the teen’s phones.

From that point there had been no contact with them.

Their families organized a massive search operation for the teens in addition to the collborative efforts of SLED and local sheriff’s departments, hoping to find the pair alive but realizing a different outcome could await.
