WINNSBORO — Mary Ladd Yongue passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 3, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Yongue was born in Dawkins, Fairfield County South Carolina on June 5, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Garris MC Cable Ladd and Minnie Victoria Hentz Ladd.
Mrs. Ladd was a member of Bethel, ARP Church. She was also a member of Thomas Woodward chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy and the Fairfield Historical Society. Mrs. Yongue was a graduate of Columbia College class of 1941 and did graduate work at Winthrop University,the University of South Carolina and Appalachian University. She taught thirty years in the schools of South Carolina. She retired from Fort Mill Public School.
Mrs. Yongue’s interest in history was fulfilled in her study of family genealogy. She was the great grand-daughter of George Williamson Livermore Ladd and Katherine Stratton Ladd, two South Carolina historical figures. In her study of history, Mrs. Yongue became an avid traveler. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She also traveled throughout Europe and Israel.
Mrs. Yongue was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Yongue; her son, William Andison Sipes; her sister, Nellie Ladd McMeekin; her brother, Garris McCabe Ladd Jr. and her son-in-law Richard (Dick) Vinnacombe. She is survived by one brother, Edwin Osmond Ladd of California (Linda), her daughter, Mary Sipes Vinnacombe of New Jersey, as well as her grandchildren, Richard Joseph Vinnacombe (Ann), Elsie Sipes Montgomery (Van), and Hiram Hill Sipes (Jerri Katherine). She also presently has seven great- grandchildren to carry forth the family, Aden, Brigit, Brody and Riley Vinnacombe; Tripp, Andi and Jenny Montgomery and several nieces, nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Bethel ARP Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Manus and Rev. Richard Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the services from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be later in the afternoon at Salem Presbyterian Church (PCA) Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethel ARP Church or Salem Presbyterian (PCA) Church.
