Rotarian Brandi Morris invited Janice Emerson from the Fairfield County Animal Adoption Center to be her program at the Winnsboro Rotary Club meeting recently.
Emerson works at the adoption center and knows firsthand the county’s progress with adoption programs and pet spaying and neutering.
She shared the process of pet adoptions, how animals are chosen for adoption, the initial cost to adopt an animal and other services the county provides relative to animal control.
The rate at which animals are euthanized has been greatly reduced over the last two years due to the efforts of the county animal control shelter.
The shelter will soon have its own veterinarian who will offer spaying and neutering services and health records at a reduced price.
She gave a brief report on how seniors in the county can adopt a dog or cat free.
The county pays for all the shots and the spaying or neutering thus eliminating any costs for a pet companion to the senior citizens.
Emerson made the Rotarians feel that their stray animals are in good hands and usually end up in a forever home.
She stressed the important point of having animals spayed or neutered so as to control the dog and cat population in the county.
