WINNSBORO — Winnsboro’s Friday Night Live social group started in 2000 as a way for singles, seniors and others to have a reason to come together to eat, travel and pray together.
This year the fellowship group felt called to help raise awareness for heart health: One of its own members had a heart attack last fall while another group member passed out while working at her store and had to have a heart ablation to treat a misfiring heart nerve.
Helping see after her and transport her to doctor’s appointments was a mission of mercy (M.O.M.) for the social group members.
Event organizer Bonnie Myers, one of the event organizers for the group, goes to the Buchannan-McCants exercise center for cardiac rehabilitation.
She has high blood pressure and a family history of heart disease with her father having three heart attacks during his lifetime. The social component of the therapy helps Myers stick with the exercise.
The social fellowship group’s numbers vary with around 42 members meeting for dinner on Friday nights. Myers said they have around 100 members. Sometimes people in attendance come from as far as Tennessee, Virginia or Florida. They also pull members in from Chester, Lake Wateree and Easley.
Myers said there is always room for one or two more at the gatherings. They reach out to widows and widowers especially, but anyone who wants to have fellowship and a good time is welcome to join.
