WINNSBORO — Junior Compton Walker pitched a complete game two-hitter and the Fairfield Central Griffins varsity baseball team defeated the Keenan Raiders 9-2 in Tuesday night action. He got a bit wild in the latter innings but was able to compose himself enough to get batters out. His teammates played solid defense behind him as Walker artfully mixed his array of pitches to keep the Raider hitters off balance nearly the entire evening.
The win may come with a cost. Speedster Jay Cook was shaken up during a run down play and left the game with what appeared to be a leg injury. It is not known at this time about his availability for Friday night’s game.
The Griffins play Pelion at 6 p.m. Friday night on the road and they hope to keep up this momentum as the playoffs near. If Cook can’t go, someone else will need to step up and provide the spark on the base paths as the Griffins rely on pitching and defense to get past Pelion.
