Help is on the way for Midlands women who are looking for a better understanding of managing their finances.
A money management skills workshop is set for 9 – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 21. The workshop is funded by Target Corporation and sponsored by Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at the University of South Carolina and the department of retailing in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management.
The workshop will be held at the Carolina Coliseum, Room 1015. Registration is free, but limited to the first 30 participants.
Cindy Kellet, senior director of development for HRSM and a licensed securities broker, will provide personal finance tips for saving money. She will also discuss ways to buy a car and a house, along with covering other consumer-related financial topics. All participants will receive consumer advocate Clark Howard’s book, “Living Large in Lean Times: 250+ Ways to Buy Smarter, and Save Money.”
Marianne Bickle, chair of the Center for Retailing, said an objective of the workshop is to give women the confidence to handle their finances.
“I hear over and over women saying, ‘I really don’t know much about finances,’ but they really do know something,” Bickle said, “but they don’t have confidence in their own knowledge. This seminar is designed to impart information and to boost their confidence.”
