BISHOPVILLE — The Lady Eagles of Richard Winn Academy improved to 9-3 on the season Thursday thanks to an offensive barrage. They defeated the Lee Academy Cavaliers 25-11.

Big innings gave the young Eagles team a lot of cushion to play with and made it easier on the pitchers.Leading hitters were Bailey Taylor, Megan Simpson, and Anna Gray Walters. The girls overcame wet conditions to win big in a game played in the rain.

Coach Retta Taylor said the girls would know more about possible playoffs and playoff seeding later this week. They had hoped to play against Ben Lippen Monday but the game was canceled due to a wet field.

The Eagles looked to prevail in the non-conference match-up against a bigger SCISA school. This season some young players have stepped to the forefront to help RWA.

According to Maxpreps.com, pitcher/shortstop Bailey Taylor has been a stalwart as she leads the team in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage and in win-loss percentage. As a team, the Lady Eagles were bringing a respectable .422 batting average into the contest. With that balance and Taylor’s arm, this could be an interesting team to watch come playoff time.
