PELION — The young Lady Griffins softball team met its match at Pelion High School Friday night, dropping the game 10-3.

They managed to cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning but Pelion answered with a three-spot the bottom of that inning to take a commanding lead. The rest of the damage came in the fourth inning when Pelion strung together a five run spurt to put the game away.

Both clubs had three errors but Pelion outhit the Lady Griffins six to five. The Panthers were active on the base paths, stealing nine bases in the contest.

For FCHS, pitcher Triona Parnell got touched up a bit in the first inning, and she allowed two runs. She appeared to have settled in during the third inning when she kept the Panthers off the scoreboard and she completed the game despite a five run fourth inning.

Leading hitters were Shontavia Robinson with a single and a triple. Katelyn Haney had two singles as did Tyeisha Trapp. Daijah Gaither, China Woodard, Jameka Henderson and Tyshana Cohen each singled for the Lady Griffins.

They next play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Central High School.
