WINNSBORO — Hopefully they have sharpened their talons to spear ground balls for Thursday’s game, because the Richard Winn Eagles committed seven errors Tuesday in a 6-5 home loss to Greenwood Christian Academy.
Starting pitcher Austin Knox lasted five innings, allowing four runs but only one of which was earned. He struck out three, hit one batter, walked two and also went 1-4 at the plate.
Sidney Edenfield came on in relief of Knox and it looked as if Knox’s damage control through five would be enough to put the Eagles in a position to win late. Edenfield, though, surrenders two runs, one earned, to take the loss. He struck out one and hit one batter with a pitch.
Patrick Pope relieved Edenfield for the final inning. Pope gave up one hit and struck out two in the frame.
The Eagles made the most of their hits, scoring five runs on just five hits. Leading hitters were Patrick Pope 1-4 with a run scored; Sidney Edenfield, 1-2 with a double, 2 RBI, a steal and a run scored; Cameron Cooper 1-2 with a run scored and Matt Taylor 1-4 with an RBI.
Corey Davis stole one base and scored a run and Reid Johnson stole two bases for RWA. Elijah Tucker also scored for the Eagles. Greenwood Christian scored six runs on six hits with eight men left on base. They committed three errors for the game. RWA batters left six men on base in the loss.
Richard Winn played Spartanburg Christian in away action on Thursday but results were too late for this issue of The Herald Independent.
