WINNSBORO — The Lady Eagles of Richard Winn Academy closed out their final regular season home game in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night.
Eighth-grader Bailey Taylor and Wardlaw’s Parker Wilkes were locked in a pitcher’s duel heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. With the Lady Eagles trailing 2-1, Sarah Coleman stepped to the plate and got a clutch base hit. The walk off hit scored two runs and gave the Eagles the win.
“This game featured great pitching from Bailey and from Wilkes,” Coach Retta Taylor said. “I am so proud of the girls for fighting to the end.”
The Eagles traveled to Robert E Lee Academy on Thursday for an afternoon contest. Results were unavailable at press time.
They conclude their season with an away game Monday against Ben Lippen Academy. Taylor said they have had a solid team this year that has grown a lot as the year went along. She said they will know more about playoff possibilities after May 7.
