WINNSBORO — The Lady Eagles split a pair of games in recent softball action, losing 13-3 to Spartanburg Christian Academy on April 11 and bouncing back to defeat Great Falls 9-3 on April 16.
In the loss to SCA, RWA fell behind by four runs in the first inning. They cut the lead to 6-3 heading into the third but SCA scored six runs to put the game out of reach.
Bailey Taylor pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and 13 runs, only six of which were earned runs. She walked one and struck out three.
RWA hitters included Jordan Parris, 1-2; Alyssa Atkerson, 2-3 with a double; Bailey Taylor, 1-2; Laken Tanner, 1-1; Megan Simpson, 1-2 with a double; Anna GreyWalters, 1-2; and Anna Connor, 2-2.
In their recent victory, RWA starting pitcher Bailey Taylor held Great Falls to one run on seven hits. She struck out seven. Freshman Laken Tanner came on in relief and faced three batters. She did not allow a hit but walked three batters and surrendered two earned runs in the process.
The Lady Eagles’ leading hitters were Jordan Parris 2-4 with 2 runs scored; Alyssa Atkerson 2-4 with 2 runs scored; Bailey Taylor 3-4 with 2 runs scored and two doubles; Sarah Coleman 3-4 with 1 run scored; Laken Tanner 1-3; Megan Simpson 2-4 with 1 run scored and a home run; Anna Grey Walters 3-4; and Anna Connor 1-3 with a run scored.
The game was scoreless the first three innings and remained a 2-1 pitchers’ duel heading into the fifth. The Eagles put up a three spot that inning and followed it with a four run sixth to take a commanding lead and not look back. The Lady Eagles next play April 23 in a home rematch with Spartanburg Christian Academy.
