The South Carolina Highway Patrol has named David ‘Billy’ W. Yongue as captain over the Troop Two area, which includes Greenwood, Laurens, Abbeville, Newberry, Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties.
Yongue has worked in this area during the majority of his 26 years as a trooper.
Yongue is filling a position that was vacated after former Capt. Mark Gosnell was promoted to major and transferred to Highway Patrol Headquarters in Blythewood in March.
“We could not have found someone more familiar with this part of the state and more capable to take the reins,” said SCHP Col. Mike Oliver. “He is well-known and regarded in this area and we are proud to have him as part of the command staff team.”
Yongue, a native of Fairfield County, joined the Highway Patrol in 1986, stationed in Newberry County.
He spent three years in Chester and Fairfield counties but returned to Greenwood as sergeant in 2007.
Yongue and his wife, Kathy, have two children Whitney, 19, and Kristyn, 15.
His father, David, lives in Blair.
The Yongues are members of Colony Lutheran Church in Prosperity.
