WINNSBORO — Seniors nurtured old relationships and formed new ones with their area hospital on Wednesday during Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s spring Senior Connection Day.
Amenities to help seniors around the event, held on FMH grounds, included golf cart rides. While Bingo was a real hit with the participants, the event was more than fellowship and entertainment.
Health screenings and health education displays marked the occasion in an effort to encourage people to be mindful of health concerns and be proactive about managing potentially chronic, and/or preventable, conditions.
Around 50 vendors attended, classes were offered in the hospital conference room and lunch was provided for the participants. The Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging supplied information about resources for senior citizens. Free carotid artery screening was provided in an effort at stroke prevention and promoting heart health.
FMH plans for this to be an ongoing event with more Senior Connection Days in an effort to better the Fairfield community and improve quality of life.
“Our seniors are important to us and we want to help them be more educated on what is actually available for them,” said Mike Williams, CEO of the hospital.
Hospital workers were encouraged by the turnout and by people’s enthusiasm for health-related events and content.
