FORT MILL — Richard Winn Academy’s game on Thursday at Winthrop University was rained out and moved to Saturday at Indian Land. The result was a 6-4 washout at the hands of St. Mary’s High School of Maryland.
The Eagles used six different pitchers in this contest, as a midweek game to keep athlete’s arms in shape in preparation for this week’s slate of games.
Sidney Edenfield picked up the loss, pitching one inning and giving up two earned runs. Cameron Cooper came on in relief for a third of an inning and struck out a batter but allowed an earned run. Blake Pauley came in for an inning and gave up one unearned run. Jason Branham gave up one earned run.
Austin Knox pitched the final inning, allowing one unearned fun and striking out one. All told RWA pitching walked nine batters and gave up four doubles.
Leading hitters for RWA were Austin Knox, 4-4 with a double, 2 RBI; Patrick Pope, 1-3 with a double, steal and walk; Matt Taylor, 1-1; Ron Price, 1-2; Johnathan Coleman, 1-1 with a run scored; and Sidney Edenfield, 0-2 but with a walk, stolen base and a run scored.
Price also scored as courtesy runner for Knox. RWA collected eight hits but they fanned 12 times in this one to just three walks. Both teams stole four bases and RWA showed a gun behind the plate in throwing out two base runners.
The JV team plays Fairfield Central today at 5 p.m. RWA varsity begins a three-game home stand Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Greenwood Christian and then play Spartanburg Christian and Heathwood Hall later in the week.
