Last chance auditions for ‘Doo Wop Red Riding Hood’ May 7

WINNSBORO — The Pine Tree Players are holding a final night of auditions at 7 p.m. Tuesday for Doo Wop Red Riding Hood, directed by Matthew Swanson. Doo Wop Red Riding Hood is a musical play performed by young people between the ages of 6 and 18.

The cast includes eight males and 10 females plus three roles that can be played by a male or female and a chorus.

The play is set in 1950s when Hula-Hoops were in high demand and apparently so is Little Red Riding Hood. Wise Prince Jason, who also happens to be winner of the Math Olympics and the Nobel Prize, wants to woo Little Red Riding Hood as does Strong Prince Justin, who can bench press his own mother, and Ordinary Loud Prince Frank.

The King and Queen hire the Fairy Godmother to set three tasks, one of which is to defeat the dragon, for the princes. But Mr. and Mrs. Hood hire the Evil Queen to thwart the Fairy Godmother’s contest. Luckily, Little Red Riding Hood’s sisters – Big Green Riding Hood and Medium Purple Riding Hood – are there to help.

Complete with the Big Bad Wolf and a sock-hopping 1050s score, the musical adventure is guaranteed to end in happily ever after laughter. The play is a Pioneer Drama Service production and is written by Charlie Lovett. Music and lyrics are by Bill Francoeur.
