For the second year, Fairfield Central High School Head Football Coach Demetrius Davis hosted his, Demetrius Davis Junior Griffins Football and Life Skills Camp.
The camp ran from Tuesday through Thursday with each day focusing on different elements of the game.
The third through seventh graders spent time working on football fundamentals and developing life skills.
The days consisted of morning practice which included warm up and drills, lunch and a life skills session.
The life skills sessions were broken into etiquette which taught the young men how to tie neckties, among other soft skills. The sessions also taught about healthy food choices as well as the strength and conditioning needed to be a part of a sports team.
The final day of life skills dealt with a topic that is all too common in our schools today - bullying.
Members of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department came in to talk with the young men about what to do if confronted with different problems.
Coach Davis’ goal for the camp was to make it free to the participants, and with the proceeds from his golf tournament, that goal became a reality.
The camp was run with the help of the Fairfield Central High School coaching staff as well as current and former Griffin football players.
