RIDGEWAY — Fairfield County sheriff’s deputies in the Community Oriented Police Program deputized the Easter Bunny on Saturday and then Deputy Bunny attended a community event complete with games for the children, bouncy air houses, prizes and contests.
Literature and handouts were available for the adults on topics such as crime prevention, gun safety, bullying prevention and texting while driving. Coloring books were available for the children as well. Youth particularly enjoyed the bounce houses and the egg races.
Nelva Bush, a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where the event was held, was thankful for the presence of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department.
She said that it takes a village to raise a child and is thankful for these kind of events to give the children in Ridgeway a positive environment to play and fellowship. In addition to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist location, another event was held off Bell Oak Road.
Corporal Ron Mull with the FCSD was encouraged by the turnout in his first full year working with the COPS program. He said they will continue to refine these kind of events to help better inform the public. Mull smiled often as he interacted with the children, handing out stuffed animals and making sure they had chances to get their photos made with the Easter Bunny.
Deputies hope the children will continue to have positive respect and regard for police officers as the children become adults.
According to deputies, it is a real treat to get to work alongside the Easter Bunny each year and help ensure area children have a safe Easter holiday.
