For those who are wondering how the Fairfield County Main Library is coming along, Director Sarah McMaster has given an update, as well as the dates for several upcoming Spring events.
“The renovation is moving along well,” McMaster said in the recent Library newsletter. “We do not have a firm timeline for moving back to Washington Street, but I am still hoping to make it back before the first of June. In the meantime, we are quite comfortable in our temporary quarters, but we’re looking forward to getting back home soon!”
At the main library, old carpet, light fixtures and insulation were removed from the building. Extensive re-wiring is underway to accommodate new light fixtures and additional computers. The entire roof was replaced and structural repairs made to several roof trusses. A new storage building has been added at the rear of the library property. New exterior shutters have been ordered and interior painting is ongoing. Installation of new carpet and new furniture and shelving will be the last items completed.
Upcoming library events include Spring Story Hour at 4 p.m. on April 17 and 24 at the temporary Main Library, located at 1132-A Kincaid Bridge Road in Winnsboro, and on April 19 and 26 and May 3 at the Ridgeway Branch Library.
The Friends of the Library will meet at the temporary Main Library at 5 p.m. April 25 and May 30. May 3 at 7 p.m. is Family Night.
Readers from Fairfield County Schools will gather at Fortune Springs Park in Winnsboro on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. for the 15th annual Read-In, which is sponsored by the Fairfield County Library, the Friends of the Library, the Fairfield County School District and the Town of Winnsboro.
Brochures for Summer Reading programs will be available at both library locations by May 1.
